What’s in a Remedy? Pleo Not™, the Natural Antibiotic!
By Dr. Kirk R. Slagel, N.M.D., M.Ed.
In the nine SANUM product categories there is one remedy that stands alone for its unique effectiveness as an Isopathic/Homeopathic anti-microbial. This Remedy is Pleo NotTM (Notakehl- German Name). Pleo NotTM is made from the fungus Penicillium chrysogenum.
P. chrysogenum is used for industrial applications in the development of the pharmaceutical grade ‘penicillin’ antibiotic. For decades penicillin yields have been substantially increased through genetic modification processes involving recombinant DNA technology, along with other molecular techniques available through analysis of the genetic regulation of metabolic pathways. According to an article written by Chuan-Bao Sun, Qiu-Lian Kong, and Wen-Si Xu (Shanghai) “Efficient transformation of Penicillium chrysogenum mediated byAgrobacterium tumefaciens”, P. chrysogenum has been a key player in the production of penicillin.
As we all know the recognition of the antibiotic effects of penicillin discovered in the early-mid 1900’s was a significant breakthrough in the medical community for treating bacterial infections. Since that time numerous variations of antibiotics have been researched and developed with the hope of isolating and synthesizing their active constituents to treat ever more bacterial infections.
All of these various antimicrobials have benefited many patients in their process of combating infection. However, the downfall of all this manipulation of the microbial world for the benefit of humans has resulted in many antibiotic resistant bacteria. Microbes have the distinct advantage of adapting to their environment at such a pace that it is nearly impossible for medical science to keep up with and certainly to keep track of the thousands of microbes in the world today. Some of the most serious forms of infection are now found in places where one would expect it to be microbe free: the hospital.
Nosocomial (hospital acquired) infections are now more frequent and severe with the organisms much more resistant to the antibiotics used to kill them. In addition, there is speculation that antibiotics may be inducing what are known as ‘cell-wall deficient’ microbial forms. These CWD’s lack the external protein markers by which the body identifies foreign pathogens. The CWD’s are now being implicated in a number of disease conditions where symptoms are present, but the mechanism for causing them remains unknown. This is possible because the testing procedures used to identify CWD’s are not always capable of identifying the exact CWD that may be causing the problem. Lida Mattman, Ph.D. offers much about CWD’s in her book “Cell Wall Deficient Forms, Stealth Pathogens”
The interaction between the human body, the internal milieu, the external environment and the microbial world is a dynamic one. It is known that there exists a balance in the natural world. There is harmony from the smallest to the largest of nature’s creatures with the tiny microbe being at the root, ‘so to speak’, of life and death processes. Should there arise an imbalance, Mother Nature wastes little time in setting the stage for equilibrium to be re-established. Throughout all of these natural processes microbes are involved in helping to restore this balance. Medicinally speaking, it is the author’s opinion that the SANUM Remedies support, or re-establish this natural microbial harmony found within the human body. However, instead of killing off one thing to save another the SANUM products stimulate a microbial and milieu shift to restore this balance.
Pleo NotTM is a fungal remedy in origin from P. chrysogenum, grown to a colloid form within a specialized “fermenter” by the SANUM-Kehlbeck Company. (The fermenters used by SANUM-Kehlbeck are purchased for around $1,000,000.00 U.S., so it is not simple, or inexpensive mechanism in producing these products.) The product Pleo NotTM functions much like an antibiotic, but without the negative antibiotic effects. There is no GI disruption, allergic sensitivities, skin reactions, etc. Instead, the SANUM Isopathic/Homeopathic fungal remedy assists in restoring microbial equilibrium within the body by acting on, or stimulating a reduction in the pathogenic bacterial forms present.
The colloid forms are harvested and filtered prior to being diluted and succussed into an Isopathic/Homeopathic Medicine. One of the many advantages of the SANUM products is the various forms in which they come. This extends the application of the remedies to many conditions that otherwise would be much more difficult to treat. Pleo NotTM is available in drops, tablets, capsules, ointment, suppositories, and sterile oral sips (ampules). It is also these various forms that promote the application of the SANUM products to every facet of the healthcare profession.
Doctors and healthcare practitioners around the world have used Pleo NotTM to treat numerous bacterial conditions. It has been used by the family practitioner for common conditions such as bacterial sinusitis, both orally and via the nares, otitis media, and as an antibiotic for wounds. Dentists have used it supportively to protect against bacterial infections through lavage of the affected area. Pleo NotTMsuppositories have been topically applied to psoriasis, eczema, and other skin infections. Some of the other conditions in which it has been used include Crohn’s disease, lung infections, sore throats, UTI’s and prostate conditions.
I have also used the product for sore throats and wound healing with success. However, I am most impressed with several simple personal successes with Pleo NotTM that includes the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp (Cradle Cap) on my two children and a chronic split in my son’s lower lip.
My daughter was four years old at the time of the treatment for the cradle cap, which she had since shortly after her birth. My wife, also a naturopathic physician, and I had tried all of the natural therapeutics that we came across without success. One day I reasoned that as a scalp condition, perhaps seborrheic dermatitis was really an association with a staph/strep bacterial infection. I applied the Pleo NotTMdrops directly onto the affected area of my daughter’s scalp. By the next day it was 50% better. This shift in such a short time was quite a surprise after all of the many therapies we had tried. Two successive treatments and the cradle cap had completely cleared. My son was one year old at the time we treated our daughter and he as well had cradle cap since birth. One application of the drops cleared his condition.
The shift in this condition was significant due to the possible implication of a staph/strep imbalance either within or on the body. I would reason that other similar types of dermatitis would receive like benefit from the use of the Pleo NotTM. I would add however, to be sure to follow the Pleo NotTM with the two balancing remedies: Pleo MucTM and Pleo NigTM on a daily basis Monday through Friday, then use the Pleo NotTM on Saturday and Sunday. Pleo SancomTM may be used instead as Sancom is the blend of Muc and Nig.
Another simple, but interesting case involves my son. He had a split in the middle of his lower lip that would bleed when he would eat or rub it, a keynote in classical homeopathy for Nat Mur. My wife and I again tried a number of remedies, including Nat Mur, without success. I was curious about the same reasoning as with the cradle cap so I applied a Pleo NotTM suppository topically by softening a small piece between my fingers and smoothing it across his lip. Within two days the surface skin of his entire lower lip peeled off. The underlying tissue was completely healed with no evidence of the split. It has been over one month and still no sign of reoccurrence.
An additional case involved an M.D. from Utah. He called the Pleo office requesting assistance with a female patient that had been bitten two years prior by a Brown Recluse spider. The lesion at the bite site had healed, but the patient was still experiencing neurological affects from the bite in the form of tremors and memory difficulties. Since Recluse bites are associated with Staph infections I recommended the initial; use of Pleo NotTM drops to treat any residual bacterial imbalance and Pleo San Staph (a SANUM Sanukehl polysaccharide hapten “tissue cleanser”) for the likely residual toxins affecting her condition. The doctor telephoned two weeks later to inform me that the patient was significantly better, with only minor tremors still being experienced.
Bacteria are an important part of life, but it is the balance of one’s internal milieu, the external environment and microbial exposure that can support or prevent a local or systemic infection. The SANUM products, along with other natural therapeutics, offer the patient and the healthcare practitioner an alternative approach to restoring this balance between the body and the microbial world.
